A Case of-Unusual Petrositis



Abstract
A 29 years old farmer was admitted into this hospital on Oct.5,1963, with chief complains of left temporal headache ptosis, deep ocular pain and deafness, dizziness, for the duration of two years.
Possible diagnostic measures including ¢¥left internal angiogram were done without any apparent evidences of brain tumors. There were no past and present histories of otitis, media, but the left ear showed complete deaf and no caloric responses at all. X-ray films of mastoid revealed some sc erotic changes in the left mastoid and petrous regions.
Simple mastoidectomy was done on the left ear on Oct. 14,1963, and no apparent fistulas to the petrous region were found, but some mucoid, discharge and hard granulation tissues in the antrum. This operative wound was misinfected followed by profuse purulent discharge from the wound. On the second day operations left abducens paralysis was appeared. Subsequently this wound was reopened and cleaned out again on Nov.4,1963.
After this procedure, the patient was gradually recovered from his long symptoms except the deafness aid a slight ptosis. He was discharged from the hospital on Nov. 9, 1963.
